Subrata Manna a most sought for Tabla player of this generation received his initial training from Late Sri Sunil Bhattacharya of Benaras gharana at an early age of eight. Later he became a prime disciple of Tabla wizard Pandit Shankar Ghosh. Simultaneously Subrata started learning Karnatik tala system from acclaimed Mridngam maestro Pandit S.Sekhar.
Subrata did his post-graduation ( M.A) from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata in Percussion music. Subrata proved his musical acumen by receiving numerous prizes and awards. Among them ‘The west Bengal State Music Academy’ competition, ‘The Doverlane Music conference’ Competition etc. deserves special mention.
An 'A'grade artist of All India Radio and TV, Subrata established himself both as an accompanist and as an able soloist. He regularly accompanies some of the leading musicians in almost all major music conferences in India and overseas. He had accompanied artists like Late Pt. Dipak Chowdhory, Padmabhusan Pandit Budhadeb Dasgupta, Ustad Aashis Khan, Pt.Samresh Chowdhory, Ustad Sujat Khan and many of the leading vocalists and instrumentalists of present generation. In 2015 Subrata received a special recognition where he lead a group of three musicians and a dancer to represent Hinduism through North Indian classical music and dance in ‘Internatioal Musica Sacra Festival’ Marktoberdorf, South of Germany. He had also played in ‘INTERNATIONAL EIGENARTEN’ Festival of Germany . In 2015 he played in CERVANTINO festival of Mexico in 2015 organized by I.C.C.R
Collaborating with internationally acclaimed German and Indian music pals Subrata founded two bands namely ‘MITO’ and ‘SHANTI COLLECTIVE’. The music explores a wide range such as Indian and western classical, Pure Jazz, folk lore and lot more. Besides Tabla Subrata here experimented with various percussion instruments such as Khanjira, Djembe, Udu, Darabuka, etc. He joined and performed along with his illustrious karnatik guru Pdt.S.Sekhar for his ensemble ‘SUPER SHAKERS’. Apart from a CD of the above, Subrata has a number of recordings published all over the world as accompanist.
Subrata is regular performer at important platforms and festivals in India and abroad. Since 1994 he frequently started touring U.S.A, Canada, Mexico, England ,France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro Middle East countries like Iraq, Jordon, Dubai, Kuwait, and Martinique, The Caribbean Island for Concerts. He had the rare opportunity to represent Govt. of India to celebrate India’s 50th anniversary of independence in Iraq and Jordon where he accompanied great Sitar maestro Late Pt. Dipak Chowdhory in 1998 organized by I.C.C.R .
